Every job starts with a proper site survey

We diagnose the cause of the failure first: moisture path, mortar mismatch, corroded wall ties, carbonation in concrete. Then we specify the right system. No defaulting to whatever's on the van.

Salt air and driving sea winds accelerate mortar decay along the Eastbourne seafront. We carry out lime repointing to conservation standards in Old Town, Meads and the seafront conservation areas, and prepare specification sheets for Eastbourne Borough Council's conservation team.

Chaplin Remedial is the sister company of Chaplin Building & Repointing, run by Lee Chaplin and the same team.

Structural remedies

Replacing what holds a wall together, clearing out what is making it damp, and stitching what has cracked.

Cavity Wall Ties

Replacement of corroded ties with corrosion-resistant stainless steel ties to restore stability, wind resistance and thermal performance.

Wall ties hold the outer brick leaf to the inner leaf across the cavity. Every project starts with a proper site survey, so we confirm corroded ties are the cause before specifying replacements.

Signs we look for

  • Cracking, horizontal or diagonal
  • Wall bulging
  • Rust or corrosion
  • Dampness or water ingress
  • Gaps between wall layers

Cavity Wall Insulation Removal

Safe, professional extraction of failed cavity wall insulation to resolve damp, mould, cold spots and condensation.

We remove blown mineral fibre, polystyrene bead or urea formaldehyde foam. We drill a controlled pattern of small access holes, then use industrial vacuum extraction to remove failed or damp insulation from the cavity.

The wall is cleared, inspected with a borescope, and holes are made good to match the existing masonry.

Signs it has failed

  • Damp patches or tide marks
  • Black mould
  • Persistent condensation
  • Cold spots or high heating bills
  • A musty smell
  • Insulation installed 10 to 15+ years ago and never checked

Helibar Crack Stitching

Discreet helical stainless steel reinforcement bars that bond cracked masonry, prevent further movement and restore structural integrity.

We diagnose the cause of the movement first, then specify the stitching the wall needs.

Signs we look for

  • Cracking
  • Bowing or bulging
  • Lateral movement
  • Water ingress
  • Continued movement

Stormdry Weatherproofing

Breathable masonry protection cream that repels water for up to 25 years while keeping walls dry, warm and looking natural.

  • Water Repellence
  • Breathable Protection
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Long-Lasting Solution

How it goes on

  1. Surface preparation
  2. Brush around details such as windows
  3. Roller for larger areas
  4. 15-20 minutes after application it starts to penetrate
  5. After 24-48 hours the wall returns to its original appearance
  6. Resistant to light rain after two hours
